Shells N500m Tears Rivers Community Apart

A N500 million donation from multi-national oil giant, Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) for the running of the community fund of Oloma community in Bonny local government area of Rivers State, seems to be tearing the oil-rich community part.

To this end, youths, women and groups in the community are gearing up for a show-down with the leadership of Oloma Council of Elders, over the misappropriation of the money from the oil giant.
The secretary-general of Oloma community, Warisenibo Gabriel Godwin has already written a letter to the management of Shell, accusing the chairman of Oloma Council of Elders, Sir Amarigha Edward Hart of misappropriation of funds amounting to hundreds of millions.
Godwin, who is also the secretary of the Project Community Trust (P-CT) of the community also accused Hart of assuming the status of a demi-god in the community and acting with impunity in the running of the community organisation.
