Osun Poll: Omisore Yet To File Petition

Four days to the deadline for filing of petition before the Election Petition Tribunal in respect of Osun State governorship election, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Senator Christopher Iyiola Omisore, has not approached the tribunal.

The PDP candidate who rejected the result of the election that was declared in favour of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) candidate, Mr Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola had made his intention to challenge it at the tribunal known following his claim that the election was fraught with irregularities.
However, investigation conducted by LEADERSHIP yesterday revealed that the tribunal has not received petition from any of the political parties that participated in the August 9, governorship election in the state.
The secretary of the tribunal, Mr. Adamu Mohammed Aliyu, in a phone chat stated that though a lawyer who refused to disclose his identity approached the tribunal for hearing notice yesterday, no party has formally filed any application in respect of the election.
But he said that the opportunity to approach the tribunal for redress is still open till 5:00 pm on Friday, August 29 as provided for by the Electoral Act.
It would be recalled that the election that was keenly contested by 20 political parties was declared won by the incumbent, Mr Rauf Aregbesola.
