Enugu Assembly Impeaches Dep. Governor

The Enugu State House of Assembly has removed the states Deputy Governor, Mr. Sunday Onyebuchi, from office. The Assembly voted Tuesday morning to impeach Mr. Onyebuchi from office.

The deputy governors travails, believed to have started when he nursed the ambition to succeed Governor Sullivan Chime, reached a crescendo when the assembly accused him of operating a commercial poultry farm at his official residence and disobeying the state governor a panel set up by the states chief found him guilty of the said offences among others.
Although details of the impeachment session is still sketchy, it might not be unconnected with the report of the panel, which the assembly acted upon with Gov. Sullivan purportedly pulling the strings from behind the scene.
Recall that the impeached deputy governor had told the impeachment panel that Mr. Chime also operated a piggery at the Government House.
Giving evidence before the panel last Wednesday, Mr. Onyebuchi, who collapsed during one of the sessions, said the governors poultry was hurriedly evacuated shortly after the panel was inaugurated.
He further revealed that the state government had budgeted for the maintenance of the poultry since 2011 and tendered the states budget between that time and 2014 to support his claim that state funds had always been provided for the poultry he operated.
The embattled deputy governor insisted that he did not commit any offence that should have warranted his impeachment and that the poultry farms he and the governor operated were in existence even before they assumed office in 2007.
