Flood: 6,000 Rendered Homeless, 4 Dead

No fewer than 6,000 persons were yesterday rendered homeless and four persons killed following a torrential rainfall which caused heavy flood at Issele-uku community, near Asaba, Delta State,

Reports said that apart from the houses that were destroyed, several persons were drowned in various gutters in the community as a result of the flood.
It was reported that the rain was the first of its kind since the beginning of this year after the 2012 flood disaster that wreaked havoc across the country.
Some of the victims who sustained severe injuries and are currently receiving treatment in private hospitals recounted their ordeal.
One survivor the rain started in a very funny way and we thought it was going to stop after some time but it continued and resulted in heavy flood which trapped us midway while returning to our various houses. It was the first of its kind and we have never seen such rainfall since the beginning of this year 2014.
Commissioner for Environment, Mrs. Frank Omare, who spoke with our correspondent, expressed sadness at the unfortunate rainfall, and the destruction of life and property, adding that the state government was committed to providing solutions to erosion problems ravaging most communities in the state.
