Robbery: Taraba Police Kill One, Arrest 7 Others

A joint patrol team of army and police, has gunned down one suspected armed robber and arrested a gang of seven other notorious bandits that have been terrorising motorists and passers-by in Garba Chede, Bali Local Government of Taraba State.

Confirming the incident to LEADERSHIP in a telephone interview on Sunday in Jalingo, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Joseph Kwaji, said the notorious armed robbers, were said to have attacked one Alhaji Abdullahi Abubakar of the Central Mosque area of Garba-Chede, threatening to kill him if he refused to offer them a ransom.
The Alhaji managed to escape and quickly informed the police and a join team of police and army operatives went to the house and in the cross-exchange of guns between the armed robbers and security operatives, their ring-leader, one Danladi Lasisi, was shot dead and the seven others were were arrested Kwaji said.
It was gathered that the armed robbers numbering about eight were said to have blocked the major highway in Garba Chede and robbed residents and travelers alike for several hours before the arrival of the security operatives.
