FLOOD: Policeman Dies As Death Toll Rises In Edo


As affected flood victims in Igarra and environs in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area continue to count their loss , the community was yesterday thrown into more grief as a result of last Sundays flood following the discovery of the body of a middle aged woman in Sasaro village, apparently swept away by the flood.

With this, the death toll from the Sunday rains is now six made up of five females and a male who is said to be a pastor that was staying in Afekhai area of Igarra.
Meanwhile, a policeman died in that same area yesterday as a result of a crash involving their patrol vehicle and a moving truck.
A leader of the vigilante team in the area, said the policemen were from Afuze Division and were on the trail of persons suspected to be conveying cannabis near Sasaro when their vehicle in an attempt to intercept the vehicle conveying the suspected cannabis rammed into a moving truck.
When contacted yesterday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Noble Uwoh, confirmed that there was an accident where a life was lost but that the patrol team was not after anybody but on their way to get fuel for the vehicle.
