Ebola: Schools May Re-Open Mid-September FG

Following the progress made in the anti-Ebola campaign, indications emerged yesterday that public and private schools may be allowed to reopen as from middle of this month.

Health Minister, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu broke the news to State House correspondents at the end of the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja.
At the briefing were the Ministers of Information, Labaran Maku, Transport, Umar Idris, National Planning, Abubakar Suleiman and Power (State), Mohammed Wakil.
The Federal Government had last month postponed the resumption date of all schools till October 13, following outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease.
Prof. Chukwu said the expert opinion now, with the strong containment measures put in place by the government, is that schools can open earlier than the October 13 date.
The new resumption date, he added, will be announced by the Minister of Education, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, after meeting with Commissioners for Education and other stakeholders, who were involved in fixing the earlier resumption date.
