Good Governance, Not Empty Promises, Guarantee Re-election Ahmed

Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State has said good governance and delivery of dividends of democracy to the people by political leaders and not empty promises are what would guarantee re-election.

Speaking at the Kwara State Signage and Advertisement Agency stakeholders forum in Ilorin, the state capital on Tuesday, Ahmed, who was represented by his deputy, Mr. Peter Kisira, urged politicians and their supporters to shun violence.

He said it was important for political parties, politicians and other political actors to comply with rules for outdoor advertising and signage in the state to maintain integrity and professionalism in the sector.

The governor warned that any group or anyone who defaces or destroys any approved billboard would be breaking the law and would be dealt with accordingly.

He said, The answer to the often violent struggle for political power in this country, especially during election is very simple.

If you do what the people want or inspire hope in them, they will vote for you even if the opposition tears down all your posters and tramples on your billboards.

On the other hand, a thousand billboards will not get you elected if the voting public has no confidence in you or in your capacity to deliver what they want, at the time they want it.

The General Manager, KWASAA, Alhaji Ahmed Olufadi, said the state of outdoor advertising and signage in the state was not in line with the vision of the government.

According to him, the disconnect formed the governments basis to take steps to regulate and control the sector.

Noting that the task of KWASAA was huge and challenging, Olufadi sought the understanding of all stakeholders so that more investment would be attracted to the state.
