According to the information provided by Nigerians Ambassador to Cote-dIvoire, Ifeoma Akabogu-Chinwuba, although the prison authorities claimed about 85 Nigerians in custody, only 70 of them have been paraded during the last consular visit to the prison in Abidjan.
Illegal drug trafficking, money laundering and traffic in human beings are the most frequent crimes committed by the detainees.
Nigerian embassy provide legal assistance for those still standing trial to enable them get fair hearing. The ambassador urged all Nigerians abroad to stop dishonoring the homeland with shameful criminal acts.
It is not a good testimony to hear that our citizens are either in prison or detained for criminal acts. We need to be good ambassadors of our country. As Nigerians, we need to engage in legitimate businesses, we need to protect the image of our country,Akabogu-Chinwubasaid.
